Working Mom Tips

Moms choose to stay at home to focus on taking good care of the kids and dealing with the needs of each family member. Though they are not employed, they still hold so much in their hands. Stay-at-home moms still have to wake up early, plan today’s schedule, prepare their children’s meals, drive their kids to school, go grocery shopping, clean the house, pick-up the kids, cook for dinner, help their kids in their homework, and tuck them to bed. These chores are not easy. They take up as much time as working in the office does. The only difference is that when they are employed, they are being paid, and for stay-at-home moms, they are willing to go to extra lengths for love.

Then we have the working moms...

We may not notice it, but moms keep a secret. They are a breed of individuals conquering both home and the business industry -- and mind you, they do great in both work! Moms are special human beings designed to lead at work and love at home. Mothers have a very hectic schedule because they have to balance the demands of their career and the needs of their family. Moms who play two characters in a day - one in the office and one at home - follow a very tight docket and too much stress in their part cannot be avoided.

Whether you are employed or a stay-at-home mom, there are circumstances when you should take a break and release all the tensions, because stress bring a negative impact on other aspects like family, work, health, and priorities. Here are some tips for working moms to be able to balance work, family, and other precedences:

Prioritize. At the beginning of the day, jot down all your errands and make a list of your priorities. Mark the important dates on your calendar -- grocery shopping, kids’ enrollment, payment of bills, and so on. It is best to write it all down.

Delegate. If you need help, there’s no harm in trying. Ask help from your husband, children, relatives, friends, or neighbors. An extra hand will go a long way.

Separate your job and your responsibilities as a mother.
Separating and striking a balance between the two is very important in every family. What you, working moms, should do is to set your own timeline on how to deal with these commitments. We recommend that you wake up early and prepare for the long day. Spend your work hours only for work hours, and never ever work extra hours unless completely necessary. Never bring your work at home as well. After work should be dedicated for your family.

Cook special meals at least twice a week.
Cooking for your family makes them feel special and loved. Ask them what happened during the day and discuss your thoughts and insights.

Never miss school meetings and special occasions.
If your kid has a game or a dance recital, it is a must that you attend! Inform your boss beforehand and take a leave.

Take a vacation once in a while. Or at least do an activity together. Go to Disneyland, watch a game or a movie at home, or go biking around the neighborhood - whatever - as long as you’re together and you’re having fun!

Don’t forget to have time for yourself. Relax and have your “me-time”. Forget about all the stress and do things that would make you happy.

Indeed, being a mom is the toughest job in the world, but the end of the day, as long as you are doing it for your family, all the hard work is worth it.

Upcoming Events - Texas Leaders Conference

Who believes that great leaders are made, and not born?

We do.

Effective leaders undergo a continuous process of education, experience, and application to develop their knowledge and skills. We believe that every day is an opportunity for a person to improve and to acquire things - no matter how simple - that will soon aid the individual in being a dynamic leader. A great leader learns throughout the process, and not depending on his or her subordinates. A great leader understands the meaning of continuous development. A great leader applies every knowledge for the betterment of the team.

As today’s industries become more and more diverse, individuals encounter yet another phase in dealing with people. Competition is tougher now. New businesses emerge everywhere, and people are confronting workers who are really excellent in their jobs. To stand out from the competition, you have to put your best foot forward.

As the leader in direct sales and marketing, the New York Business Partners (NYBP) is going to participate to an event created to be part of the learning process that will make individuals great leaders.

Texas Leaders Conference offers an incomparable experience and opportunity to all individuals venturing into business, marketing, sales, entrepreneurship, and a lot more. This event is organized mainly to train individuals to become exceptional business leaders.

We have invited notable speakers to share with you tips and inspiring stories on how to acquire, improve, and develop leadership skills. The conference will be offering discussions, activities, and workshops during the event, to aid the learning of the participants. Our aim is not only to produce quality business leaders at the end of the event, but to be able to inspire individuals who are new in the industry.

The Texas Leaders Conference will be held on June 2nd in Waxahachie, Texas. Contact info@newyorkbusinesspartners.com for more details!

Striking a Balance with Work and Play

Let me ask you a question: Which do you think is more important, career or life?

This question is very tricky because both has its own advantages. Some says that career is more important because without a job, “life” cannot be supported. On the other hand, others say that life, which encompasses health, leisure, and time with loved ones, can never be outweighed by money. This question indeed gives us a headache.

Yes, it is quite a tough decision. Particularly nowadays, work tends to overrun and conquer your personal life. Building a career is very crucial when you’re self-supporting, most especially when you have others depending on your earnings. But is it really worth it? Can an average salary support your expenses, compensate the lost time with your family, and counterbalance the health hazards?

If you can confidently tell me right now that you can manage your time wisely by balancing your career with your personal life, good for you. You’re one in a million, and I salute you. Balancing both pursuits is a big challenge to most of us. It’s not an easy task to deal with because it is a never-ending cycle of exhaustion, melancholy, and sometimes, regret.

So if you think you are one of those workaholics who disregard the term “personal life” in your vocabulary, then you’re throwing your life into the wasteland. It’s as if you’re only existing, but not living. As we always say, life is short, so live it to the fullest! It’s okay to work hard, and all the more, to have fun. You just have to balance the two and make everyday worthwhile. We’ll be giving you tips on how to find your way to a work-life balance. Remember that you have the right to enjoy your life, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to slack and quit your job. You don’t have to sacrifice the other in order to get pleasure from the other. We’ll tell you how!

  • Wake up early. Wake up at least 2 hours before your call time, depending on your office location. Take time to sit and have breakfast with your family and have a quick exercise if you have time. This will relax you before going to work and this will give you the energy you will be needing throughout the day. Cramming every morning is very stressful.

  • Create a schedule and stick with it. Before your day starts, jot down the things you have to do - tasks at work, errands, meetings, etc. Provide a checklist and note your accomplishments for the day.

  • Delegate and learn to say “no” sometimes. You don’t have to do everything! Trust your co-employees or subordinates, guide them, and divide the work among yourselves. Exercise teamwork within the workplace! Also, don’t try to be a martyr. Do your own tasks first before volunteering to do others’ chores. Don’t be afraid to say “no” if needed.

  • Stop wasting time gossiping. Talking about your co-workers flaws is just waste of time! Instead of backstabbing, do something productive like cleaning your desk, scheduling, or taking a rest by having a short nap or doing stretches.

  • Never go idle at work. Let’s say you’ve finished all your tasks for the day. Don’t just sit there doing nothing! Try to start working on the important (but not that urgent) projects so you don’t have to cram when you are about to approach the deadline. Make use of your free time wisely.

  • Don’t  go overtime. Finishing all your tasks within the 8-hour work time means you’re efficient in your job. It’s okay to be a workaholic within your work hours, but as much as possible, don’t let yourself suffer by seeing your co-workers leave one by one.

  • Don’t bring work at home! This is a major no no. You spend more than 8 hours working. It’s time to give yourself a break! Do your best to finish everything in the office so you could relax when you get home.

  • Schedule a “me” time. Go to a salon, a movie, or go shopping! After a long, stressful day, you deserve to be pampered. Give yourself time to relax and have fun!

  • Spend time with family and friends. Aside from having your personal time, it is recommended to spend some of your free time with your loved ones. Catch up with them by having dinner after work, or maybe have a quick get-together at a nearby coffee shop.

  • Set your own standards. Create your own scheduling and unique ways of completing your tasks and errands at home. It would make you more comfortable if you, yourself, were the one who established how to manage your time and perform your duties.

  • Reevaluate your priorities. If you are just about to pursue a professional career, you consider this very important, so you’ll work really hard. Your priority at this point is making an impression, boosting your career, and aiming for a big promotion. But once you’re married and have children, your priorities will surely shift. You’ll find yourself rethinking about going overtime; instead, you’re always looking forward to going home for dinner and spend the night with your family.

Face-to-Face Marketing and Sales

The expeditious change in technology, needless to say, has brought us to an era of a fast-paced lifestyle. Business industry has outwardly been upgraded to a much higher level, in terms of saving time and money. Virtual communication, such as e-mails, social media networking and instant messaging, “webinars” and online tutorials, online advertisements and the like have particularly changed the marketing biz significantly. Now we could propagate anything to anyone in just a few mouse clicks. Who in the world doesn’t want a life like this?

While virtual communication has touched on the world of sales and marketing, let us avow that nothing surmounts to engaging with people face to face. Not only do companies establish a personal connection with their clients or customers, but they also constitute a start of a long-term business relationship. Face-to-face opportunities are still the best method in tapping the right target market and keeping each one of them satisfied. Focus group discussions, direct selling, activities and events are most likely to build more meaningful and abiding professional connections.

Face-to-face customer interaction is more important than before to have a long term business relationships with your customers.

Although online sales and marketing provide companies with plethora of advantages, many still attest to the relentless effectiveness of face-to-face communication. But why fight over different strategies, when in fact we can integrate both techniques to initiate a successful sales or marketing program? At the end of the day, the company’s requirements and the consumers’ demands are most important, and striking the right balance between the two approaches to cater to these needs is the best way to go.

How To Tie A Tie

Understanding what to wear on an interview is important to your success. The first impression of the interviewer on you can have a deep influence on his/her final hiring decision. If you dress casually, the interviewer may think that you do not take the job interview seriously and are not eager to get the job.

Meet The NYBP Team: Jason Thompson

- Where are you from, why’d you come to NYC?
- Well I’m from New York City by law but I lived most of my teen life in Guyana where my parents are from. The reason why I came to NYC is because Guyana didn’t have such a good opportunity for a new college grads who’s looking for their first job in the working world. There was abundance of opportunity for employment but how much I would be getting paid for did not compare to how much hard work I put into my studies. So I thought it was time for to move on to the land of opportunity to see whats next for me. I got a phone call from New York Business Partners, I went out for my second round interview and the rest was history.
- What do you do in NYC when you’re not working?
- When im not working I go shopping. I love to go shopping so much I always like to walk around Soho every Satuday to see whats new and what deals they have. Like no matter what, there will always be something new going on in Soho for you to check out or buy….It’s also a perfect way to hang out with friends.
